Racism in Midwifery Open Forum

The Board of the Illinois Affiliate of the American College of Nurse Midwives extends our gratitude to the Illinois practitioners and students who replied to the Racism in Midwifery Survey that was published in July.  We received 40 responses. 

We are hosting an Open Forum to share the results and foster discussion. All midwives, students, and academic faculty are invited to join the forum, regardless of current membership status in the Illinois ACNM Affiliate. The goals of the discussion are to create the framework for where we begin to move forward as a community of professionals committed to our patients’ optimal health and well-being, as well as the health and well-being of our colleagues within our professional community.

Grounding intention: We invite all participants who attend to come prepared to listen with open hearts and open minds to the information and experiences being shared, and to disarm themselves of defensiveness that may cause us to receive another’s perspective as a personal affront to our personal selves. Please be mindful that all in our community are not ok right now.
